Notre Dame Sophomore Emma Duerstock is described by her English teacher, Mrs. Bricking as “industrious, self-motivated, thoughtful and involved.” Mrs. Bricking also adds that “Emma is always prepared and chooses to take on projects that require extra time and effort.” For these reasons and many more, Emma has earned the recognition of April’s Student of the Month.
Emma, currently rehearsing for this weekend’s spring musical, keeps very busy with extra-curricular and service activities. Besides the theatre program, Emma is a member of the Latin Club Honor Society, Panda Tones (NDA’s audition choir), Varsity Archery Team, Interact Club and school Mass music group. Emma was selected by faculty to serve as a Latin tutor, which she does on a weekly basis. She has also earned first honors every semester of her high school career. Outside of NDA, Emma keeps very busy serving her parish community as a cantor, soloist, lead altar server and youth group member at St. Timothy’s Parish.
For the past two years, Emma has represented NDA at the English Speaking Union’s Shakespeare contest. Emma embraces the Classics as she believes they “open you up to a different type of acting” and teaches people to have empathy for one another. With such an appreciation, it is no wonder Emma placed among the top 6 students for the last two years. Congratulations, Emma on earning this recognition and NDA’s Student of the Month. We are proud to call you a Panda!
