Faculty and students describe Senior, Ana Calvopina as a compassionate, respectful and thoughtful individual who is deeply committed to her community. For a person who offers so much to those around her, Notre Dame Academy gladly recognizes Ana as December’s Student of the Month.
According to her Literature teacher, Ms. Dickman, Ana “seems to care more about community than competition. Ana’s spirit doesn’t need to shout and wave its arms to be seen and heard. It’s more the kind that draws you in with quietness, conviction and care- much like the spirit of Christ, himself.”
Volunteering weekly at Notre Dame’s Urban Education Center and serving on Student Council, Life Club and Interact requires the humility and much of the quiet spirit that Ana possesses. From the many activities Ana partakes in, what she enjoys the most is knitting scarves as part of the Interact Club and creating a happy school environment through Student Council efforts. According to her Religion teacher Mrs. Gorton, Ana’s “exceptional gift lies in her concern that all students feel they are a valued part of the larger school community.” It is obvious that Ana believes treating people in a good way is very important, and Ana thanks her Ecuadorian culture and parents for this valued belief.
With future goals of serving in the medical field and caring for the marginalized populations of our society, Ana’s true love of learning, positive attitude and academic achievements will serve her well. She readily accepts challenge and appreciates the value and opportunity education brings her. Congratulations, Ana Calvopina, on being named December’s Student of the Month!
