This week in Black History Month we celebrate amazing black performers! To catch us up, we will mention two today: Regina King and Beyonce. Regina King is a top-tier actress who has a new film coming out soon – Shirley. In this film, Regina Kings plays Shirley Chisholm, who in 1972, was the first black candidate for the Presidency. A quote of hers we liked is:
“Just because someone doesn’t understand, doesn’t mean they don’t want to.”
We also must celebrate Beyonce, who is still one of the best-selling music artists of all time! She once said, “If everything was perfect, you would never learn, and you would never grow.”

Today for Hope Week, do something kind for someone else. Acts of kindness towards others both big and small can positively impact how we feel about ourselves. We can be generous with our time, money, resources, skills, power, and attention. Generosity can be healing, like pumping weights for our soul. Who is someone that you feel is generous? What makes them generous? During lunch, write a positive affirmation on our “Positive Affirmation” banner such as “I am generous” and write a positive note to put on a bathroom mirror. Don’t forget that Hope Squad has 5 more hidden “Hope Hearts” throughout the school with a “hope moment” written on the back. If you find one, you can turn it into Mrs. Stanley in the Quad for a Panda Buck! Check out the Hope Squad roster hung up throughout the school and linked in the Padlet to learn more about our Hope Squad members.”
