Throughout February, Notre Dame Academy will celebrate Black History Month. An informative timeline illustrating Black History in America will be running continuously in the CLC. Each week we will highlight Black American Artists who used their artistic gifts to uplift the race and inspire a nation. Important facts and accomplishments of inspirational Black Americans are posted on the Display Case in the front of the building. We will also share a quote from a different inspirational artist each day. This week’s focus is Literature and Poetry.
Today’s quote is from Frederick Douglass, an Author who was born a slave in 1818, and was taught to read by his owner’s wife. He escaped to freedom, and worked to free over 400 slaves via the Underground Railroad. He became a friend of President Abraham Lincoln. He said:
“The thing worse than rebellion
is the thing
that causes rebellion.”
