Navigating the Course Scheduling Process

As we begin to prepare for the upcoming academic year, we want to provide you with an overview of the course scheduling process. This collaborative effort involves students, teachers, and the Student Services team to ensure each student’s schedule aligns with her academic goals and prepares her for success in subsequent academic years and in her endeavors beyond Notre Dame Academy.

Key Dates and Activities:

  • Week of January 13th: Our Student Services team will conduct informative sessions with each grade level. These sessions will cover:
    • State Requirements: We will review the state-mandated courses required for graduation.
    • Course Catalog Overview: Students will explore the diverse range of elective courses offered, including new and exciting options.
    • Guidance and Support: The Student Services team will be available to answer questions and provide guidance throughout the scheduling process.
  • Now until January 24th: Individual Teacher Meetings:
    • Teachers will meet with each student individually to discuss course options within their respective disciplines.
    • These meetings are crucial for students to:
      • Understand the rigor and expectations of different course levels (e.g., Honors, AP, College Prep).
      • Discuss their academic strengths, areas for growth, and individual learning styles.
      • Determine the best course fit for their unique needs and future goals.
  • February 10th – 14th: Course Registration:
    • Students will register for their elective courses and view core course recommendations from their teachers online through PowerSchool.
    • Students may submit a “Request to Change Course Recommendation” form to the Student Services Team if they believe a different core course is more suitable for their academic needs.
  • March – April: Master Schedule Development:
    • Our academic leadership team will diligently work to construct the school’s master schedule, carefully considering student requests, teacher availability, and the overall balance of course offerings.
  • Late April/Early May: Resolving Course Conflicts:
    • The Student Services team will meet with individual students to address any scheduling conflicts that may have arisen during the master schedule creation process.
  • May 16th: AP Course Change Deadline:
    • This is the final deadline for students to submit a request for a change to their AP course selection.

Our Counselors, Faculty, and Administrative Team support your daughter throughout this process and encourage you to do the same by:

  • Discussing her academic goals and aspirations with her.
  • Encouraging her to ask questions of her teachers and the Student Services team.
  • Reviewing the curriculum guide (available 01/21/25) together to explore the diverse options available.
